Hi James,

I wrote to you last night in the conversation thread we had open, but you asked me to create a support ticket.

I indicate your response in this message to contextualize.

Hi Juan,

Can you please create a ticket https://helpdesk.importwp.com/create-ticket/ , and a attach your importer settings to this ticket by going to Tools > Import WP > Settings / Tools > Import / Export and select and export your importer as a JSON file.

Can you confirm that you have enabled the ID field, and the value in the ID field matches a record in the posts table?

Which version numbers of ImportWP and ImportWP PRO are you using?

Well, I’ll explain to you what I’ve done. On the WordPress end I have a Custom post with additional custom fields created with the Carbon Fields Library. I only use the post_title as a native field. On the other end I have a Google Spreadsheets file.

Well, in the “Template fields” step I link one of your fields to the post_title and the rest as Carbon Fields custom fields. In the “Permissions” step I choose the ID option as the only identifier (there is no column for this in the Google file).

I manage to import, but initially, out of 1085 records (the first headers), 1069 were inserted and 15 were updated. I didn’t know why. I realized that in the column used as post_title there were duplicates (they are necessary), so I tried to differentiate them by making some changes. Now I did insert them and not update them, but I didn’t do it with all of them. After removing a duplicate, there were 1084 (the first header) and it inserted 1081 and updated 2. Now I really don’t know why.I should really create 1083 entries and then be able to update them.

What should I do? Should I create a new column in the file with values without repeating to serve as a control?

I am attaching the JSON file of the import.

I expect news soon, I must present the project this afternoon.

Greetings and thanks.

J

If you do not have an id, then do not use ID as the unique identifier, leave empty instead.

I would recommend in your google sheets creating a column with a unique id e.g. something as simple as  1,2,3,4,5.... (think you can easily start the sequence and then drag it to auto populate the column: https://support.google.com/docs/answer/75509)

Then within the importer, on the template fields step create a new custom field, it can be called anything, but for this example i will call it _iwp_ref , then if you give this field the column value of the unique id.

On permissions step, change the unique identifier to: _iwp_ref , and then re-run the import.

James, When you say "on the template fields step create a new custom field" should I use the Enable text field option and create it on the fly? Or should I create a new one from Carbon Fields? The thing is that in the Permissions step it doesn't give me any options other than ID or post_name Juan Antonio Melero Gomar Responsable Dpto. Enable text field and manually type the custom field name.

You can type a text in the unique field dropdown on the permissions step

James, Following your instructions, an import has inserted 1083 and a subsequent one has updated 1083. It now works as I expect!! I was unaware that the Enable text field option was for creating a new field manually and that in the unique identifier options selector it could be entered manually. For me that interface is not very intuitive, but everything works now!! Thank you so much! Juan Antonio Melero Gomar Responsable Dpto.
